This is a pin switch. Used a lot in alarm and remote start installs. This switch goes either in a hole you drill or in a pin switch bracket.

For example in a hood pin installation, when the hood is open the pin switch will be up and making contact with the casing which is almost always connected to ground. So the alarm sees a ground to let the system know the hood is open.
