This is a high quality, and extremely adjustable, brass pin switch. These work great with my pin switch brackets. 

When this switch is installed and adjusted correctly it will make contact. Usually these are ground so when you open the hood, trunk, or other area allowing the switch to make contact it will send a ground through your wire to your alarm or light switch. Very handy!
